Robin Horstmann is vice president of enterprise applications at a $1.4 billion consumer packaged goods manufacturer. She has spent more than thirty years leading technology for manufacturers and distributors with complex sales channels, more than twenty-five in consumer goods.
She sets enterprise application and integration strategy and then owns the delivery against it. That has meant defining the architecture and building it across a complex web of applications, and leading implementations from selection through go-live. She has scaled IT organizations through mergers, acquisitions, and rapid growth.
She wrote The Governed Enterprise: An AI Governance Playbook for Consumer Goods, the first AI governance playbook written for the industry, published August 2026.
She holds certifications in AI governance (AIGP), AI security (AAISM), risk and IT controls (CRISC), information security (CISM), data privacy (CDPSE), and project delivery (PMP).

An employee who expects trouble for using an unapproved tool stops mentioning it. The alternative is a sixty-day amnesty and registration window built on three questions: what the tool is, what business function it serves, and what data it processes. No names are collected.
What an agentic AI commits the company to
When a procurement agent clears a purchase order, the company has entered a binding obligation. Someone approved it, and that someone is now a system rather than a person. Governance is what determines who is accountable for the commitment.
An AI capability can arrive in a routine software update
Vendor assessments reopen at contract renewal and on the review calendar. A vendor adding an AI feature in an update triggers neither. In consumer goods the software often belongs to a co-manufacturer, which leaves the brand owner no contract to assess.
Frameworks written for banks do not answer a recall
In financial services an AI failure is typically a reversible wrong decision. In consumer goods it is a contaminated batch, a mislabeled allergen, a recall. General frameworks are useful on principles and silent on that difference.
The requirement that arrives before the regulation
Retailer supplier requirements may start asking how AI systems are governed well before the EU AI Act or any state law is enforced against a mid-market manufacturer.
